OSCARS contribution to 23rd RDA Plenary Meeting
Calendar Event date
12–14 November 2024
The Research Data Alliance’s 23rd Plenary Meeting took place on 12-14 November 2024 in San José, Costa Rica, with the theme ‘Sustainable Science’. It was organised by RDA Secretariat and CONARE (Consejo Nacional de Rectores).
OSCARS contributed with the session "OSCARS Terminology for data management & quality of data management" chaired by Romain David. The session focused on establishing and standardising terminologies for data management within the scientific community, emphasising the integration of FAIR principles. The discussion addressed the creation of common terminologies for key components of data management, such as data management professionals, data policy statements, project submissions, data management plans, data dictionaries, and repositories.
The session aimed to produce a set of recommendations for standardised terminology data management, a framework for terminology governance, and guidelines for incorporating these terminologies into data management and data cataloguing services and skill development programmes, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the quality and interoperability of data management practices within the scientific community.
These recommendations will also be compiled and discussed in a paper, which will be submitted as an RDA outcome. All session participants are invited to contribute as co-authors.

OSCARS also contributed to the poster exhibition with the poster "Challenges in Standardising Terminologies for Data Management in Scientific Research", which is available on Zenodo. By providing interdisciplinary examples, the poster aims to highlight terminological challenges and foster discussions on potential solutions to improve data management practices within the scientific community. The poster also served to stimulate the discussion in the dedicated session at the RDA Plenary, and in preparing the above-mentioned paper on the topic.
