Following our first article on the activities of WP2 – Composable Research Infrastructure Services in EOSC – the work package continues to advance CODAS (Composable Open Data and Analysis Services) across the five Science Clusters.
The Composability & AAI Workshop, held at CERN on 17–19 September 2025, marked a significant step forward for WP2’s work on CODAS, bringing together members of the OSCARS consortium and the Science Clusters to jointly review the progress on composability . Building on this event, and on the 71 pages of workshop notes setting out key next steps for each Science Cluster, reaching from advancing composability across Research Infrastructures to tackling data fragmentation and discoverability, including collaboration with Galaxy, WP2 has finalised three milestones:
- MS8: Composability Progress Report, which provides a mid-term update on the development and deployment of composability across the Clusters. This report draws directly from the foundations laid in MS6 - Composability Action Plan, and the insights gathered during the Composability & AAI Workshop (MS7).
- MS9: Initial Engagement Concept which introduces the first engagement strategy to showcase one or two Composability Demonstrators per Cluster. This concept is grounded in the progress documented in MS8, to ensure alignment with the evolving composability scenarios.
- MS10: Engagement Workshops. These workshops will leverage the CODAS demonstrators, with each cluster contributing to engagement activities designed to reach out to research communities and demonstrate the tangible benefits of service and data composability.
All three milestones have been integrated as key sections of D2.2: Service Composability Report, delivered in July 2026, to which all Science Clusters have contributed.
To further foster collaboration and knowledge sharing, WP2 will organise a cross-cluster follow-up workshop in late February / early March 2027, complemented by a series of webinars. This initiative follows the OSCARS/EOSC webinar named: “EOSC Federation and Science Cluster EOSC nodes and hubs - Onboarding of services” held on 17 February 2026. The webinar offered a short introduction to the EOSC Federation including the actual status and next steps and five presentations describing the Science Cluster EOSC nodes and hubs, explaining the opportunities and requirements to onboard the results/outcomes (data sets, services, tools and similar) from OSCARS funded projects.
Within the context of these webinars, the PaNOSC cluster organised the first in a series of PaNOSC-focused webinars, which took place Thursday 18th June 2026 and focused on persistent identifiers for beamlines: an emerging and important tool for scientific attribution and discovery.
Alongside this technical and engagement work, WP2 has opened discussions with EOSC regarding project-level credits for OSCARS. WP2 also continues to work with the Science Clusters on the implementation of the Composability Action Plan.
